For quite some time, I have been experimenting with mesh wifi routers.
The Amazon Eero is a mesh router that caught my eye right away during the launch (on Amazon).
Because of its attractive look, this device may go unnoticed as a router.
However, it opens up many possibilities for anyone interested in experimenting with a mesh wifi setup.
Investing in an Eero router is absolutely a good investment because it provides excellent coverage, customization, support, and integration while keeping on the more expensive end of the affordability spectrum.
Is Eero Secure Worth It?
You may get access to various capabilities with Eero Secure and Secure+, which are not necessary but are nevertheless beneficial additions to a satisfactory mesh experience.
I do not use it, although some of its capabilities, such as network protection, are extremely useful.
Eero Secure has the following characteristics: Eero Secure+ is a security software program.

Why do I need an Eero?
Before spending your money on an Eero router, the first thing to do is to think about your requirements.
- Are you interested in enhancing the wifi coverage in your home?
- Do you intend to utilize your Eero for video gaming purposes?
- What level of customization do you require?
- What type of internet connection are you currently using?
- How important do you think customer service is?
- Do you have an interest in smart home integration?
- How many devices do you intend to have connected to your network?
I don’t have to think about it too much to conclude that Eero is an excellent option for all of these objectives.
Adding an Eero router or beacon to your home will increase wireless coverage by 1500 square feet, while the Eero Pro will increase coverage by 1750 square feet in your home.
Eero For Gaming or Streaming

Eero provides special queue management (SQM) capability for gaming and resource-intensive streaming to optimize bandwidth across all devices.
This ensures that your daughter’s Netflix viewing does not interfere with your gaming experience.
How Customizable is Eero?
Eero is light years ahead of its competitors when it comes to customization, and it makes the Nest wifi appear like a toy in comparison.
To be sure, some of the capabilities on the Eero router are locked behind a paywall in the form of the Eero Secure, which requires a subscription fee.
Although I have been using Eero Pro without Eero Secure for over a year now, I have not had any concerns due to doing so.
Does Eero Work With Your Internet Connection?
You may have noticed that I also inquired about what type of internet connection you were using.
Important because if you are on a typical cable internet plan, you can very well get away with using a standard Eero.
However, if you want to use your Eero with a gigabit internet connection from Xfinity or another ISP, it may be good to upgrade to Eero Pro because it makes sense to get the most of the speed you need is paying for.
Eero Support Is Great
I’m going to be completely honest with you. The Eero support team is fantastic. They are helpful on phone conversations, in chat, and even on the Eero subreddit, among other things.
I believe this was one of the most important factors in choosing Eero over other mesh routers in a similar location.
Any queries or concerns you have about the installation, upgrades, or simply ordinary home networking are promptly addressed. Seriously, it’s outstanding.
Eero and Smart Home Integration
Because Amazon manufactures eero, it is logical for the Alexa voice assistant.
Eero is also the first mesh router to declare compatibility with Apple’s HomeKit network of smart home devices in a surprising turn of events.
In other words, if you are concerned about integrating your router with your smart home, Eero may be the greatest mesh solution available.
How many devices can Eero handle?
I’ve already talked about SQM and how it may be used to optimize bandwidth across devices on a network.
On the other hand, every router will have a limit on the number of devices that can be connected to it without causing problems.
Each Eero has a capacity of 128 devices. Therefore, if you add another Eero to the mix, you will have even more devices.
Consequently, even if you tend to purchase new smart items automatically connected to your wifi network, there are few grounds to be concerned about.

When I purchased my first Eero router, I was confronted with the same decision that you are.
If you consider the number of devices connected to your network and your internet plan, making the decision is relatively simple.
If you have many devices connected to your network and you have a high-speed internet plan, I would recommend that you purchase the Eero Pro.
This is because the Eero Pro’s tri-band and speed capabilities allow you to make the most of your internet speed without affecting the performance of any of your devices.
On the other hand, if you utilize a standard internet connection with a speed of a couple of hundred megabits per second and do not intend to connect dozens of bandwidth-hungry devices to your network, you can get by with a standard Eero.
Does Eero speed up wifi?

Eero can increase the speed of your wifi or internet connection if your existing wifi equipment or network causes slowness.
For the most part, the modem routers or Gateways provided by the ISP do not support high-speed internet access over wifi.
Eero can assist you in resolving this situation. However, it is important to note that wifi internet connections will almost always be slower than connected internet speeds.
For this reason, if you plan on gaming, make sure to connect your PlayStation 4 or computer to your Eero through an ethernet cable to maximize internet speed.
Testing my Eero with CenturyLink Fiber on three different spots in my house and recording the speeds I found was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Here is a table with the results to assist you in making your decision.

385 Mbps 400 Mbps in the living room (ground).

Does Eero replace your router?
Eero is a router that replaces your old router.
It does not, however, take the place of your modem. This is where Eero, a dedicated router, differs from a modem-router gateway, commonly given by many Internet service providers.
This is the advice I always provide to anyone who comes to me with a question about home networking.
Make use of your equipment to connect to the internet. There are numerous advantages to doing so.
In addition to allowing you greater control over your network, it eliminates the possibility of packet manipulation by your ISP. It even eliminates the need to pay rent to your ISP to use their modem.
Please make use of your network and modem; it is a no-brainer.
In the end, I chose the Arris SURFboard after conducting extensive research on the subject (on Amazon).
It is compatible with all ISPs and high-speed internet, and it has been providing me with excellent service without any troubles for several months.
How many Eero beacons do I need?
The number of Eero beacons you require is determined by various factors, the most important of which are the size of your home and the thickness of your walls.
This is because if you have strong concrete walls separating different rooms or locations, the signals will be weaker as a natural result.
As previously stated, every Eero router and beacon increases coverage by 1500 square feet, while every Eero Pro increases coverage by 1750 square feet.
Consequently, if you live in a 3500 square-foot home, you may get an Eero Pro and two beacons to ensure that wifi signals are distributed evenly throughout your home.
Does Eero collect data?
If you are concerned about your privacy, you will be reassured that Eero is not intrusive in the type of data it collects.
When it connects to your network, it collects anonymous information to help them enhance your network and the device’s overall operation.
Eero not only does not collect any information about the websites you visit, but it also does not sell its customer data to other parties for advertising.
Can Eero Be Hacked?
Eero is considered to be one of the most secure routers available.
There aren’t many accessible surfaces on your Eero that could allow someone to access it and, hence, your network.
The TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) has been disabled on the Eero. Eero only accepts connections over WPA2/AES, which means that any effort to access your network through brute force will be unlikely to be successful.
The use of WPS is also prohibited on Eero. In a nutshell, I would not be concerned about my Eero being compromised.
What is better than Eero?
There indeed aren’t many mesh routers that perform as well as Eero in its pricing range, but it isn’t saying much.
However, if you are ready to pay a little extra money, superior mesh routers are on the market to choose from.
If you want to place the greatest possible mesh solution in your home, I recommend the Orbi RBK 752 (available on Amazon), which features wifi technology.
If you are prepared to pay more money, the Orbi RBK 752 will provide you with more extensive capabilities and a more seamless experience.
Wifi 6 is poised to become the next big thing in home networking, so it may be beneficial to get in on the ground floor sooner rather than later.
