Marketing claims that the Ring Doorbell is simple to set up: connect the mounting bracket, hang the doorbell over the bracket, and screw in the security screws. Simple. Visitors’ faces will be captured by the wide-angle lens, which will give you a complete picture of your guests. Great. What if you’ve had a door frame that is too small or awkward?
Installing the narrowest Ring model requires wedges or a corner kit. Despite this, if you’re not cautious, you may wind up with poor or obfuscated video captures.
Why Ring Doorbells in a Narrow/Awkward Space is an Issue
Ring doorbells It’s their selling point that they’re able to catch a complete image of the outside world. Covering a diverse lens helps accomplish this. However, there are a few drawbacks:
Problem 1: When Your Door is Inset
If their door, as well as its frame, protrude upwards of a few inches from the wall
A well-informed robber may be able to approach your premises from the “wall side” — where the Ring cannot catch them – and this might lead to blind spots. This might be an issue if the house entrance is sunken upwards of a few centimeters and does not have a porch. When they are completely in front of your door, their physique will be caught by the Ring doorbell for the first time.
If a person approaches you and you can’t see their face, you can’t do anything to avoid crime.
Problem 2: When Your Door Frame is Thin/Narrow
In terms of width, the Ring House phone 2 is 6.35cm (2.5in). Even though the standard door frame is wider than this, if you have a door frame like this: In this case, the door frame is smaller than the Ring Doorbell 2’s minimum width of 2″ (5cm).
The Ring House phone 1 and 2 (the only one that is somewhat less broad, at 2.4′′/6.17cm) have a problem. Hardwiring is not necessary because of the built-in battery, which makes the device bigger and heavier.
Solutions to Narrow/Inset/Corner Installs
Solution 1 or 2 might work well if the door is placed back from the wall, as I discussed in the first difficulty. Alternatives three and four may be an option if your window frame is too tiny.

Solution 1: Use a Corner Kit
Changes in video capture may be made using a corner kit (also referred to as an angle mount), which lets you modify where the Ring aims.
If a wall is right in front of where the Ring will be put, this is a great way to obtain a full view of the Ring. What if you could achieve 0% sidewall and 100% useable video capture instead of 40% to 50% of typical video captures being sidewall?
These kits often have a tilt range of between 30 and 50 degrees, which makes them quite versatile: If you live at the end of a street, you may find this beneficial to want a greater view of people heading toward your home. If you want to collect additional valuable information, you may tilt the Ring in this way farther.
Solution 2: Use a Wedge Kit
The standard height for installing a Ring is 48 inches (121 centimeters) from the ground. A 64-inch (163-inch) doorbell can appear out of place. Given that many doorbells need you should reach up to them.
When a wide-angle lens records a person’s body and face, they may be seen from any distance, even when they are quite near to the camera.
However, it may not be viable to install it at this height. For example, you may wish to hardwire it, and your current doorbell is higher up, or there may be obstructions that might impede video recording.
Wedge kits let you tilt your Ring doorbell vertically so you can have a better view of what businesses want to see (like approaching guests) and less about what you don’t want to see (like the road and homes across the street!).
To obtain 5-15 percent vertical tilt, Ring offers an authentic wedge tilt kit, including three stackable wedges.
Solution 3: Buy The Ring Doorbell Pro
The Ring Doorbell 2 with the Ring Doorbell Pro shows that the Pro is much smaller. This means that the Ring Doorbell 1 and 2 are up to 36% larger than the Ring Doorbell Pro since they have a battery (if you can’t hardwire it). These are the precise measurements:
Product Height Width Depth
Button Pressed: 1 5/8 (12.65cm) 2.4′′ (6.17cm) 0.9 inches in diameter (2.21cm). The Ring Doorbell 2 5′′ is available for purchase (12.83cm) 2.5 centimeters (6.35cm) 1 centimeter (2.74cm). The Ring Doorbell Pro 4.5″ (11.43cm) 1.8 inches (4.67cm) 0.8″ (2.03cm)
Ring 2 needs an additional 23″ (1.68cm) compared to the Pro, which may be too much for certain people when doorbell width. You’ll notice right away that the Ring Doorbell 2 (and also the 1) is much heavier and thicker than the Ring Pro when you touch it at an electrical shop.
The Pro may be a better option for you if the window frame is too small — provided you can use a powerline adapter for it, of course.
Solution 4: Mount on Your Main Wall (not the Door Frame)
Instead, a wall-mounted doorbell with a small frame leads to the Ring doorbell. It’s also possible to mount your Ring Burglar alarm upon that wall opposite your front door if you don’t have enough room to place it on the ceiling (though with a Pro and perhaps a corner kit).
Ring House phones 1 and 2 are hardwired. Therefore this may function nicely. If you don’t already have a doorbell on the wall and wish to hardwire it, it won’t be easy to install (because you would need to run cables through the wall).
Be cautious not to place it too far from the door while mounting it. Otherwise, you run the risk of not getting a clear picture of your guests while using video capture. Furthermore, some guests may fail to see it and instead knock on your door.
Solution 5: Mount on Your Door
If you can’t place your Ring Doorbell to the door’s frame, you may want to try mounting it on the door itself.
Rechargeable batteries Doorbells 1 and 2 are a nice choice. Still, you probably wouldn’t be able to powerline adapter it since the lines would snag whenever you open and shut the door (unless, of course, you leave plenty of space on the hoses, which is unsafe near a door!).
To get the best video captures, place it strategically on the door, so you can see your guests from all angles, unlike many other cameras that show them from only one side.
Solution 6: Use a Peephole Cam Instead
It’s also feasible to utilize the Ring Peephole Cam or Ring Door View Cam if all of the previous methods aren’t viable (or you’re unwilling/unable to drill into the exterior of your home).
Replace your peephole with this camera image (which looks like the Solitaire diamond Doorbell Pro) and put it on the inside, not elsewhere, your property, to keep your home safe. It then delivers just the same financial advantages: two-way conversation, motion-activated alerts, and HD video.
For those renting and unable to drill any holes, this camera’s double-sided adhesive tape or Velcro straps may be a viable option (it is situated inside your house, hence being harder to steal).
